Research focus

  • Optimisation of drug penetration and -permeation for dermal administration

  • Drug formulations: Modern colloidal formulation, such as micro-emulsions and mixed micelles

  • Biopharmaceutical analytics: Separation methods such as HPLC and capillary electrophoresis, mass spectrometry (Electrospray, Nano-ESI, APCI, MALDI, LC/MS, CE/MS, GC/MS) and vibrational spectroscopy (Infrared-, near Infrared- and Raman-spectroscopy)

  • Characterisation of the molecular structure of the Stratum corneum lipids using spectroscopic and calorimetric methods as well as X-ray and neutron scattering; modifications due to skin diseases such as psoriasis and neurodermatitis

  • Development of biosensors and model systems for characterisation of the bio-adhesion using quartz-microbalance

  • Studies of the influence of incorporation into colloidal vehicle systems such as mixed micelles and micro-emulsions on the bioavailability and on the pharmacokinetics of highly hydrophilic drugs such as antibiotics which are up to date only parenterally available

  • Characterisation of biologically interesting proteins such as elastin, tropoelastin and collagen using modern HPLC-MS techniques after digestion of the proteins

  • Non-invasive methods for studying drug penetration FT-IR-ATR- and FT-IR-photoacoustic spectroscopy
